Expert Coaching
Dr. Hugh Mangeya is Chairperson of the Department of Media, Communication, Film and Theater Arts Studies at Midlands State University (MSU) in Zimbabwe. He has more than 10 years coaching experience at all levels from the game from grassroots to senior club volleyball.
Volleyball Mentorship
The Academy targeted at three (3) types of participants/audiences – The Enthusiast (who play just for recreation), The Student (who seeks to develop knowledge/technical ability of the sport) and The Star (those who after excellence).
Academic Mentorship
The Academy believes in developing the complete athlete and/or human being. Time is devoted to ensure that athletes attend to their academic obligations. This involves, but not limited to, setting aside time for athletes to attend to their homework and continuous assessment learning assignments (CALAs). We are also currently in a drive to redress and re-ignite the ever-decreasing youth reading culture. This is mainly through the promotion of a reading culture in the youth at The Academy. To date, The Academy has raised more than 80 books, ranging from children's fairy tales to critical works. Furthermore, The Academy is working with volunteer tutors who provide free tuition in the various young athletes’ subject areas.
Life Skills Mentorship
Through free volleyball, academic and life skills mentorship programmes targeted at mainly marginalised ghetto youth. The Academy offers free inclusive mentorship programmes to young children aged between 5-23 years. We have so far hosted a joint leadership and children's rights session with Sisonke ZW Family Trust.

Who We ARE
We are a community development initiative that is currently based in the high-density suburb of Mkoba 14 in Gweru, Zimbabwe. Founded on the principle of life-long learning, the initiative empowers empowers children and young people from three main approaches. That is, through free volleyball, academic and life skills mentorship programmes targeted at mainly marginalised ghetto youth.
What we do
Sport is a crucial space for socialisation where young children can learn critical life lessons, foster strong ethic and, in the process, develop core values and morals as they engage in learning volleyball skills at the Academy. These include teamwork, leadership, accountability, patience, self-confidence, goal-setting and mental strength. Being an inclusive initiative, The Academy targeted at three (3) types of participants/audiences – The Enthusiast (who play just for recreation), The Student (who seeks to develop knowledge/technical ability of the sport) and The Star (those who after excellence). Whilst focus is mainly place in children between the ages of 6 and 23, older participants also have open access to The Academy. Currently, the Academy is holding its training sessions at Mkoba 4 Primary School in Mkoba 14.

What we do
Consistent with our desire to promote life-long learning, the Academy offers life skills mentorship to ensure the promotion of behaviours that enable the youth to adopt and effectively deal with the demands and challenges of everyday life.
So far, The Academy, in partnership with Sisonke ZW Family Trust, held a life-skills mentorship session in which young children were sensised on managing relationships, with a specific focus on abuse.
